Normally Japanese beautyberry is planted because of the dark purple berries that appear on this small shrub in late summer and continue the display through fall. 'Shiji murasaki' is quite unique that the foliage that appears in the early spring is quite showy. The light green leaves are accentuated by white to creamy white variegation that are dusted across the spring leaves. Sometimes the leaves are almost solid white and green dusting variegation. 'Shiji murasaki' may reach 4-6 ft in height and width in 10 years.
